No, because then your chain will become a 'T'. Connect one end of the
internal cable to a SCSi3->SCSI2 adaptor and you can then connect an
external chain to the end of the internal one. This is how I connect my
scanner and Zip drive.
You'll have to be careful about cable length, SCSI3 is more sensitive
about it. When I tried connecting an external PCMCIA card reader, the
entire SCSI bus refused to work. Removing any one device, and the
associated cable, fixed it. Hopefully I can replace the 2m cable to the
scanner with a 1m one and it will all work again. Otherwise I'll have to
brave the spiders in the garage to look for my A2091 card ;-/
