Well,

It is possible, although it does not always work... if it is a single
device, it seems to work. e.g.:

cvppc->hd->external adaptor->hd->term
|
scanner

Although it does form a 'T', it is still a straight path, so long as the
scanner is not terminated, and has no devices attached to it.
