Charging for online banking is a cunning ploy to manage demand. Both Barclays
and Lloyds TSB charged for Online Banking for personal and small business
clients, but both now offer the service free as they can accomodate the usage.
Corporates still pay, but then their sysyems are quite a bit better than bog
standard online banking (make international payments, control payroll etc.),
but in general corporates pay less charges for self keyed stuff, so if their
usage is "right" it can come for free :)

Just a personal opinion but I can well see telephone banking becoming semi
premium rate before too long for all except high worth accounts (define that
as you will) :/
In fact the whole idea of call centres as the new employment Mecca of the
future seems a bit hollow to me.
