That stopped in most areas a few years ago. I was told it is because
transport is now more efficient, so they get all the mail in time for it
to be sorted and sent out in the first post.
In Victorian times, there was a teatime delivery too. You could post out
a dinner invitation in the morning for a meal the same evening. They
had telegrams, too.
