The problem with hardware surveys is that people with higher-specced
machines are far more likely to respond, so it give a skewed result.
They can give an indication, but not a particularly accurate one.
Online surveys are even worse as people online tend to have a higher
average spec anyway.
One way of improving the reliability is to do a single survey covering a
lot of topics. This should increase the number of respondents and won't
be hardware-biased.
