Sounds like you're trying to run Birdie a second time. Are
you sure it's not loading from User-startup and you just can't see the
patterns?

Before trying to run Birdie from a CLI try running Exchange and
looking to see if Birdie is listed. Running Birdie from CLI, even
"Birdie ?" will open the about window if it's already running. If it
is running remove it via Exchange and then try running it from CLI
again. What happens?
