That's normal. The hardware renderer renders at 16 bit in Permedia 2 chips not 15 bits.
(there wouldn't be a speed difference anyway).

This is Video Memory not System memory. Remove your backdrop, close any graphics
intensive apps, reduce the resolution and it voila.
