What do you want to print with it, mainly photos? dtp? text?
Do you have or have you budgeted for Turboprint, you'll really need it
to get the best out of any printer you buy.

WRT to inkjets, Epson are my favourite. Print quality is excellent,
particularly for photos. I find black text can bleed a little on poor
quality paper, HP's printers seem more tolerant of lower quality
paper, a consideration if media costs are an issue. I find HP's
build quality to be pretty poor on the lower end deskjets and they
also seem to develop paper pickup problems quicker than the Epson
(Epson tend to go for rear entry rather than front tray feed).
With HP you replace the head with the ink tank rather than just the
tank on the Epson. This usually works out more expensive but you have
the added advantage that if the head does get blocked and won't
clear by cleaning it's easy and cheaper to replace than if the same
happens on the Epson. Although my Stylus 800 has performed
faultlessly for the last two years (and I got it second hand), I have
heard and read reports of people having serious problems with blocked
heads on the Epson printers.
The latest version of Turboprint supports the Epson Stylus 880
(beta?), and this should suit your budget nicely if you shop around
- it's around 145 inc. VAT.
I'm not very up on Amiga Support for laser printers. HP
LaserJets are, IMO, far and away the best laser printers for general
use. Unfortunately, the lower end models don't speak PostScript, I
think the lowest model that does is the 2100M which goes for around
Although I'm not familiar with laser printers on Amigas if you have
any questions regards HP LaserJets specs, speed, etc or laser printers
in general feel free to mail me off list.

Who cares? :) Use Turboprint, you're throwing money away on a printer
without it.
