...for less than pro DTP, at your budget, I would first buy
Turboprint, and test it with your printer and the various HP
drivers included in TP. Then if you want to buy, I'd get the
new Epson 880/777Stylus for 2880 X 720 color, or a
Stylus 750 Photo for 6 ink 1440 X 720 dpi and a used
Epson/HP/Pansonic/Brother 300 or 600 dps Laser for
text only, experimenting before committing to the final
color graphic (for time/ink savings).
If you spend 2 or 3 hours with HWG Post, Ghostscript,
APDF 1.4 etc, you will be able to print PS output from Amiga
programs without a Postscript version printer.
Just for fun, I made a doc with TrueType, Adobe
Type 1, and Compugraphic fonts, which printed fine from
Graphics Publisher,, which comes with Turboprint.
The 2880 dpi Epson drivers will be ready soon, but for
now, I use the Epson 600 driver for my 777, which is
noisy and slow, but cost only $89.00 yank. The 880 is
much faster, but still in your budget, including the used
laser. I have an old Epson ActionLaser II which prints
fine with the mentioned Postscript programs.
Don't bother with Amiga OS drivers or complaints,
as TP is as good or better than Mac/Pc stuff, plus they
just released Linux version 1.0, and is cheap for
what you get!
