its a 16bit OpenGL hardware renderer...your option of 65k colours or more
:-)

its not system memory its running short of, its gfx-card memory.

its trying to open a triple buffer, so if you choose 640x480-16bit then
you're trying to use up ~ 2Mb just for the buffering, you've got to have
another 600k for output and then about 1Mb for textures thats almost 4Mb.

now, if you've already got gfx memory used for your workbench...lets say a
16bit 1024x768 screen - that's 1.5Mb + backdrop image double-buffered -
will be about 4.5Mb.

best option? lower workbench settings :-)
(my choice is plain workbench backdrop)
