What both of you seem to forget is that for instance png and jpeg's are
evolving
I have several jpeg's that voyager refuses to show but the warpjpeg datatype
does show
if you visit such a website and the layout is wrecked because of it (for
instance with DHTML/CSS)
then you are stuck for quite a while.
will you then wait for a new image decoder to support that variation, just
to be able to visit one site which IF (all) imagedecoder's had a fallback
to datatype's at failure would easily be seen as
the author wanted it (except for the exception of progressive one's).
