Extra cost? Both drives cost around the £40 mark (inc. VAT) these
days, don't they?

I don't know about robust. I've never had any problem with my LS120
disks, but it's not like I'm particularly rough with them. Lugging
them to and from university every day didn't do them any harm though.
I can't really compare it to a Zip, because I've never used one on my
Amiga, but my LS120 is incredibly slow (attached to a Power Flyer
Gold). I only got one because the uni had them, and now I use it for
weekly backups - until I get a more satisfactory solution, that is :)
It works adequately, but it's not great. If I were you I'd save your
money and get yourself something with a little more capacity (and a
little more speed).
