What HappyEnv does is create an ENV: device which is essentially
empty. If any program requests to read a certain file, it fetches it
from ENVARC: and stores it in ENV:
Thus only files that are in use are copied to ram, not all of 'em
Of course anything writing to env: will still only be writing to
memory, assigning ENV: to ENVARC: is a silly idea as if you press
'use' then you've basically saved the prefs even if you didn't want
to.
You could make an env folder on your harddisk if you were /really/
desperate to save memory, but it would make booting a lot slower
