They wouldn't affect the interface itself, but they could stop the
hardware trying to poll the interface if the SCSI one has higher
priority.

Reread the original mail.

In other works, the drive powers up but nothing happens. That sounds
like the interface to me rather than the drive.

To get as far as that error, the controller must have been able to
recognise the drive. An ID clash wouldn't let you get that far.

It's about eliminating possible causes. It's easy to change a
couple of SCSI IDs to test this. What would you suggest doing instead,
buying another IDE drive just to see if it works?
