Subject: | Parallel scanning |
The name "Mustek 600 CP" is coming to mind...the parallel scanner that
people seem to dig.
Well...my wife's computer belongs to her company; they gave it to her
in case she needs to work at home sometimes. It had Win 95 at first, so
we bought a scanner that we THOUGHT we'd be able to keep for a
while...one of the newer HP scanners that had both parallel and USB.
Worked like a charm, if terribly slow.
Sooooooo...they "upgrade" her computer by giving her a "new" one with
NT 4.0 [gak] and USB ports...go fig -- USB isn't NT-compatible, and
neither is the damn scanner!
Aaaaaaaaanyway...I'd like to remedy our malscannage by getting one that
we're pretty sure we're not gonna be stuck with if she gets yet another
"new" computer. I'm thinking something Amiga-compatible, so if all else
fails we can use my Amiga. [Plus, I scan in a lot of things at 300dpi,
no compression -- we're talking several megabytes, and my SCSI Zip
won't work on her non-SCSI computer!] SCSI is out of the question
because 1) like I mentioned before, there's no SCSI interface on her
computer [and I don't feel like buying one!], and 2) too damn
expensive.
Now...the Mustek 600 CP...seems that a lot of Amiga users use this one,
no? Now...I know it won't work with the Amiga's built-in parallel port;
EVERYBODY knows that. All the product descriptions I've seen of it in
terms of Amiga say that it requires IOblix because of this. However, I
don't have IOblix, and I don't want to buy IOblix just to do parallel
scanning. HOWEVER -- I DO have the GVP I/O Extender, and it has a
parallel port that can allegedly be configured to work with PC devices.
Now...theoretically, should the Mustek 600 CP work with this card?
Anybody ever try it? Or can anybody recommend a good Amiga- and
Winblows- [and Mac- -- my wife wants to get a Mac someday] compatible
parallel scanner that will work with this card??
