With ADSL you can have anything from 512kb/s down 256kb/s up to 2mb/s
up 256kb/s down, I think cable was 512kb/s down 128kb/s up last time.
The problem with ADSL is that the same frequenct is shared with about
20 people, so if everyone was using the full bandwidth at a time your
download speed could be as little as 25kb/s, half the speed of a
modem. I must say however that I've never noticed the bandwidth on
the ADSL connection at work drop at all, I guess the problems'll
only start once ADSL becomes affordable and more people have it.

I wouldn't say ISDN was much faster, it's only between about 2x-3x
faster then a 56k modem, which isn't much, and if you use full 128k
you pay twice as much for the phone bill
