why not just test the accelerator card without any memory installed on it?
It'll still work - but very slowly - at least then you can see if the
CPU/FPU are okay....and if the card can actually be used.

you are right to be cautious of just using other simms, in case the card
is damaged in some manner (that'd be very rare...)
