If your crashes are more frequent now than before the
upgrade, I suggest that you reinstall Amiga OS 3.0,
as you probably have changed and added a lot to the OS
over all these years. If you are using 3rd party math
libs, you will have to reinstall the original ones from
Amiga OS 3.0 anyway.

Also I strongly recommend upgrading to a better OS release.
In case you have not got the Amiga OS Developer CD,
you will find the details of OS 3.0 -> 3.1 bugfixes here:

http://www.gregdonner.org/workbench/wb31_chg.lha

The programmers at West Chester made a lot of improvements
and bugfixes, especially to Intuition and Gfx.

I have been using hard disks with my Amigas for more than
ten years now, and the first thing I learned was to keep
the installed OS(es), the generated data files, and the
user programs on separate partitions (or hard disks).
(Also I installed a tape drive for making backups).

In the meantime both hardware and software has improved,
but I still keep the generated data separately. All the
Amiga web browsers I have used crash quite frequently,
so I create a special Temp: partition for browser caches.

If you use FFS on the browser cache partition, then keep
it small, say around 100 MB, so that you do not waste too
much time revalidating. Also have a look at some of the
(Aminet) utilities, halting the startup process until
the partition is validated.

I use the excellent and fast 3rd party PFS3 myself.
However, as Olaf Barthel is busy with a new official FS,
it probably would be wise of you to keep on using FFS
for now, and save your money for an Amiga OS upgrade :-)

Regards,

Armin

PS: There used to be a bad version of FastExec,
moving expansion lib to fast RAM.
The normal version just moved exec lib
and probably would have worked OK for you.
But do have a look at BlizKick,
as that is the way to go in my view.
