Thanks for the help with my Prelude problems - I went to that site and
downloaded and installed the new software, and that solved the problem
of not getting any sound. HOwever, I still can't record with Samplitude
Opus, although my guru error is now 8, zeros and B. :)
Anyway...remember how I said that after I put the Prelude in my SCSI
went out of whack? And that I think I solved it? Well, I didn't...I
learned that when I tried to burn an audio CD last night. MakeCD did
its usual process of filling up the buffer, but then it just hung.
Error light flicked on on my burner.
Now....here's what my original SCSI chain looked like:
Cyberstorm 060 MKIII SCSI [that's the 68-pin SCSI] --> YamahaCRW4416SXZ
external CD rewriter, unit 3, not terminated --> Zip 100, external,
unit 6, terminated.
That chain worked great until I put the Prelude in. Once the Prelude
was in, the CD drive wasn't recognized. So I rearranged devices,
fiddled with termination, and all went well -- Zip and CD burner were
both recognized, could read and write to the Zip, could read from the
CD...
I seem to remember discussion before about how Zip drives don't provide
enough term power to give proper termination, so an external terminator
would be required. I guess this goes for my CD burner as well, as I
completely eliminated the Zip drive from the chain and the burner
wasn't recognized AT ALL. The burner is only recognized when the Zip
drive is on the chain somewhere.
So...what are my options? My guess is that the addition of the Prelude
may have sucked up just enough power that may have somehow reduced
termination power. And to be honest, I have an AD516 I can take out;
just haven't done that yet.
If I need another terminator to slap on, which kind should I get? The
Zip drive's SCSI port is DB25, CD is MD50, and of course the Cyberstorm
is the new 68-pin format.
