115200 is *not* sufficient for highly compressible data, like text. The
fact that a file full of normal text transferred no slower than an
"empty" (and therefore almost infinitely compressible) file indicated
that the modems were already delivering text faster than the serial port
could handle.

This is why RealAudio is better suited to streaming audio than MPEG. If
a couple of packets of MP3 data, which uses TCP, are dropped, the
system asks for those packets to be resent and waits until they have
before continuing. RealAudio uses UDP and if a packet goes missing, it
goes missing. There is a minimal glitch im playback that you probably
won't notice.
