Hello Sean,

The Phase 5 CyberStormPPC SCSI doen't have termination on the
controller - I have one, and it is clearly stated in the manual. I
don't know if the DCE boards are different.

This could be the problem - SCSI 3 devices should be above unit 8.

I assume that all units are activated in the CS early startup screen?

I have an UW SCSI3 HD at unit 10, set to provide termination power,
and the unit itself is terminated.

The HD is at one end of the 68-way cable, next is the controller, then
two SCSI 2 devices (CD-ROM and CD-RW)on 68>50 adapters, set to
units 3 and 5. The cable is then terminated with an active 68 pin
terminator.

Wrong! That HD, if SCSI3 68 pin, should be on one of the upper 7 unit
numbers.

This sounds like a "T" setup? If so you're going to have all sorts of
problems :(

You want one cable, terminated either end, with the controller and all
devices in the middle. The Hard Drive should go at one end of the
cable as one terminator, and should be set to provide TERMPWR.

If you want to run external devices, then you need a 68>50 adaptor ON
THE END OF THE 68 WAY CABLE, and this should provide upper byte
termination - the chain then continues as normal, with the last device
terminated.

The HD should be set to eg unit 10, and the ohter SCSI2 unit nos. left as
you have them.
