Hello Sam

I can't open windows deselected here :-(

I sorta understand but I can't say I have had the problem here. The only
thing I get like that is when you open a drawer containing files that are
'viewed by name' and the system halts (but not the poiter), but that is
normal IIRC.
I would assume that if the whole system freezes (including the pointer) then
the task it is currently doing is higher than everything else. Therefore I
assume that lowering this 'task' to a value lower than the mouse pointers
would solve it?

I'm stil little confused.

I would assume that tweeking your multitasking with a program like Executive
'might' help.

I have disabled VisualPrefs because of the noticable slowdown here but
stiull use Birdie. The only way you can make Birdie go faster is to used
optimised patterns. By that I mean using small patterns, with the least
colours as possible, which should result with a small file.
The patterns I am currently using are .jpg files and between 2 and 3k in
size. When I was using AGA I used .iff patterns with only 10 colours.
