Subject: | RE: Amithlon & customer chip emulation |
Hi,
Though people might be interested on seeking the reply I've had from Bernie
(Amithlon author) on whether customer chip emulation will be added:
>One of hundreds of emails your do doubt getting at the moment. I've read

The answer is "no".
My reasoning is that anybody who would want custom chip emulation would
a) want it to run some rather old software (*everything* modern is
retargetable to a gfx card)
b) Knows and loves that software from running it on some real hardware,
which is sufficient to run that software.
So nobody would really gain much by including custom chip emulation ---
the people who want it really don't need it, and the people who might
need it have no reason to want it.
On the other hand, emulating the custom chips is very difficult, and you
have to make allowances for it everywhere in the rest of the emulation.
That really slows down everything, so to include it would hurt a lot
of people, who wouldn't get the full performance they could get.
Bernie
Regards
John

Hmm... this all seems to be a major PR cock-up by Amiga Inc and I personally
think Bill should know better with his PR/Marketing background. I know
everyone at Amiga Inc are busy but this is starting to look unprofessional.
Surely they (Amiga Inc) should have told Hyperion in advance, seeing as
they are developing the MESA port for the AmigaOS 4-5. They should have
also had the FULL statement on Amiga.com briefly after AmiWEST or at least
by the Sunday 29/7, instead of keeping everyone waiting until Wednesday
1/8.
Sorry but I think it would have stopped a few flaming sessions... oh well.
Regards,
Martin :-)
