I don't know what's causing it, but I have the same problems.
Although, looking at your spec, our systems don't have much in common
(A1200, OS3.9, same amount of RAM).
Or perhaps I should say I have similar problems. Usually when I turn
my Amiga on from cold, my HD light flickers as though it's doing
something, but after a few seconds it stops and I'm left with a black
screen. A warm reset usually gets my machine up and running, although
sometimes it can take 2 or 3 resets before anything happens.
The infuriating thing is that it doesn't happen ALL the time,
sometimes everything is fine, and even though it's been happening for
months I have yet to see a real pattern emerge.
Don't think this will help, but at least you know you're not alone ;)
Regards
Gerry
