Decent, not good, since the on board sound chips are only 8 bit.

Done that, and got higher quality. My PC's on board sound chip is 16
bit.
There's no point trying to claim that a 16 year old chipset is better
than the current ones, you're asking to be laughed at. It doesn't
matter whether the chips are mounted on the motherboard on on a card,
except that card mounted chips can be more easily upgraded.
MCIBTYC is a dangerous game to play, especially when YC is evolving so
rapidly.
