The same happened when the fan packed up on my original CSPPC. I can
only assume the PPC gets hot enough to shut itself down before the Amiga
finishes booting. By the time birdie came to load, the PPC was already
off as I got no border patterns.

A new fan should fix it, just get the slimmest 40mm fan you can find,
delivering at least 5.5 cfm.
