Subject: | Problems with brand-new PPC board... |
Well...I've concluded that the PPC I got back from Software Hut is not my
old one repaired from DCE but rather a brand-new board, as their newsletter
mentioned that they just got a shipment of new ones...but that's OK...
What's NOT OK is that I've been having all sorts of problems since I put the
new PPC board in to replace my Cyberstork MKIII 060, which is the EXACT
same board but without the PPC....
1) I can't run PowerUP at all....PPCInstall always tells me that there's no
ppc.library available...[I had it running ONCE earlier today, but haven't
been able to do it since....] ppclibemu doesn't work at all.
2) I can't browse the Web all of a sudden without some kind of crash --
either a guru or a complete reset. [This does this on ALL THREE BROWSERS.]
3) Audio Evolution decides to crash the system every once in a while.
First I thought it was because the board was misconfigured -- when I
ESC-booted, sure enough it was set for 60ns RAM, but I have 70. I changed
that option but it didn't help.
I know the PPC chip itself works because SecondSpin encodes MP3s at
lightning speed, and my MP3 players play them nice and quickly and in
excellent quality.
But my concern is that browsing the web is a bomb just waiting to go off.
Since Friday I haven't had a completely successful web session. And as far
as I know, none of the "big three" browsers actually access the PPC except
for datatypes, etc., and I don't have any PPC data types installed!
I tried installing WarpOS 5.0 from the OS 3.9 CD....I tried the older
version. I tried reinstalling from the Cyberstorm floppy disk. I tried
completely eliminating any and all conceivable PPC accesses....so why am I
all of a sudden experiencing these problems running what is essentially the
exact same hardware?
