Subject:Workbench Colours

Hi There,

I know I've only been back 5mins, but yes I've got a question already.

About a month or so ago I was hacking about with the look of my workbench
(3.0 running Scalos) being skint at the moment I can't upgrade to 3.9 like
I'd want to, I've already got MCP and Visualprefs running which take care
of most things I also run Full Pallette after hearing great things about
it.

The first thing I did was converting everything to glowicons (the newicons
version not the OS 3.5 one), the main problem was that my pallete (I use 64
colors for greatest speed on DBLPAL) was changing causing Voyager to
display the wrong colours.

I decided that it might be an idea to bump up the colours to 256 to get a
better visual performance. so I did and everything seemed to work a little
better, but I really wanted to keep a set pallette like the Mac or windows
does, this should improve things slighty rather than ending up with the
same colour allocated several times.

So I played around with a couple of pallettes for a bit and found a good one
based around the netscape web colours and the Mac colours, so I loaded it
into Full Pallette, painstakingly locked every colour individually and
saved it. Then I updated the screen from the workbench menu. To my horror
all the locked colours were changed by Scalos.

I found by loading the pallete into Full Palette while the Scalos colour
prefs were open then using that then saving the Full Palette colours seemed
to hold the colors a bit better, but some of the locked colors are still
changed by some programs.

Has anyone manged to successfully complete lock a palette in the way I've
described? At the moment my gadgets seem to like to change colour quite
regularly.

Also, I may be a ble to get my hands of a dirt cheap 2nd hand SD/FF, will
this improve the speed of my workbench compared to using DBLPAL?

See Ya,

Andy "Channel 5 after 11pm" Hall
