Seeing I posted the question in the first place, Colin informed we of a way
round it. As the laying in question I was doing was simply two images, you
use the "Composite" button off the toolbar. That layered pic can then be
saved in the other formats. If you want more layers, repeat the process.
Works fine (bit long winded) but it certainly did the job for me!
