Gary Peake Speaks from the Heart

I do not want to ruffle feathers, but someone eventually has to say this.

In every field today (especially in computers) there have been tremendous advances made over the last ten years.

Ten years ago, we were looking at Pentium 100's or less. There were only a very few, very expensive alternatives to the regular tungsten light bulb for the home, energy consumption in cars was measured in less than 15 miles per gallon.

For the computer industry, computing nearly doubles every 18 months. A "generation" in this business is about 18 months long. Ten years is almost 6 generations ago.

There has to be some time and place where Amigans make the transition to newer, better, faster or get left behind forever. Yes, there are LOTS of alternatives out there if the Amiga experience isn't important to you as a user.

If the Amiga experience IS important, then we have a solid transition plan, based on reasonable costs, with over 2200 developers back in the fold working now on Amiga style releases for the products we will run on.

These developers are coming back because we have shown them what we have planned and they also believe it is a solid plan.

Unfortunately, life does not stand still. It would be nice if we could buy one car and drive it forever, one house and live in it forever, one computer and use it forever. And if what you have today is totally acceptable to you, if you do not need any new applications, do not want any new games, do not have any desire to see devices talk to one another so that YOUR life is easier, then surely the A4000 will last you a long, long time.

My A500 still runs and it is nearly 15 years old now. But, it no longer does what I need it to do. I was a very hard sell on Fleecy's ideas (which almost everything we are doing is based on), but he DID eventually sell me. I think the plans are solid, my family is seeing some of his ideas in beta and they love them. And they are not computer geeks. If anything, my family uses computers, cell phones, PDAs, etc. less than anyone else until I started bringing home some things for them to test and play with.

There is a revolution afoot and Fleecy has Amiga Inc. at the forefront of that revolution, ready to be in the position it so richly and justly deserves.

Rather than complain today, wait and see what we bring you. If it doesn't fit your needs, if it doesn't WOW! you, if what we bring to the table isn't your cup of tea, then by all means, be upset with us.

But at least give us the opportunity to show you our dreams and the dreams of thousands of other Amiga users and developers. And that dream is to once again be the best in multimedia and computer processing on small footprint applications and games.

I do not think any of you will be disappointed!

Sincerely,
Gary Peake
Amiga Inc.
