My feelings toward MSVC is very ambivalent. Sure it has a good project
manager and many nice features. But unfortunately these features are
also often a burden. For example when I press a dot then it looks at
the word in front of the dot and if it's a structure then it shows a
drop-down menu with the field members -- unfortunately it fail to
recognize 98% of my types, and worse, when it fails it spends 2 seconds
or so where input is locked (apparently going though my source or some
db). This even happens if I wrote "100.0". So I hate this feature!!!
It also show the API of a function that I have just typed, but unlike
StormC 4, which show this info in the status line at the top of the
window, windows show it below the function. On several occasions this
has covered a part of the source that I actually needed to look at, to
know what to give as argument... so another nice feature... ;-)
Though the worst thing probably is that when developing a "Win 32
Console Application" there is no "Win 32 console" which can run this
program with the comfort one is used to on the Amiga (like a proper
review buffer, a window wider than 60 chars etc.). So MSVC may be a
nice IDE, but I still lack all the comfort I have on the Amiga with
regard to file management, a decent shell with decent tools, a
clipboard enhancer (which works!!!) etc.
Actually, all what can be done on the Amiga side *is* done on the Amiga
side! And often I need to bring in the Amiga for help. For example
after having tried many of the DirectX example programs I was stuck
with megabytes of 'Debug/' directories (in each subdir). How can I
quickly delete these? I ended up doing a "List Lformat" on the Amiga
over smbfs...

I have stopped looking after I created the DWAC-list here at
Yahoogroups :-)
Kind regards Allan
