Is that a limitation on DOS itself, or merely on our DOS
interactions (eg. filesystems)?

I've had a couple of crashes when I installed MUI 3.x
which ended up giving me a SYS:MUI/MUI/MUI/MUI/....../MUI/
directory which was undeletable and untouchable to the
system - but not to DiskSalv.

On the other hand, IIRC the autodocs set the maximum
allowable name length at 100+ characters and then say
that FFS will only let you have 32 characters...
