> I agree for a beginner it is a daunting nightmare, I used to mess around on Ami some years ago with Devpac and A68k, I have programmed in C++ on PC using VC++ On Windows and GCC on Linux (this is installed on installing Linux), but I am new to C in Amiga, though technically C is C it is the librarys which need to be learnt, and the shell :) if I want to compile programs, I had great expectations of porting some of my PC C programs to Ami, but have now realised that this is going to be a pull your sleeves up and get your hands and arms dirty job :), but I will get there :)
I have found GCC Online Help which explains how to make a working distribution of GCC for any platform, I have also seen a bit on there regarding building a cross compiler, which sounds interesting.
I am going to submerge myself in the 800 odd pages of gcc documentation for a while and then build this gcc compiler if it kills me (it probably will) :)
Thanks all for your help and advice :) speak to you again once I have triumphed with gcc
