Doesn't help much but I've been there with FFS and the HD I use A-OK now. I
had a patch where I kept getting similar problems, including the "stops &
makes rw-error noises" at so many % bit. I persisted trying to get disk
checkers to go further a bit at a time & tried them from no-startup CLI in
case mem was low. I don't have PFS/Doctor but if it has a "handle most
damaged disk" mode, low-mem mode and so on try them all. I had to use
DiskSalv bypassing A-Dos and low-memory with FFS to get problems cleared.
????A last ditch option with DiskSalv/FFS was quick format, then immediately
Unformat, but again I don't know how/if this applies to PFS(Doctor)????
