I had that problem with the internal IDE on my 1200, chicken and egg stuff,
No CD-ROM cos the drivers are on the CD :)
What I did was I skipped the emergency disk stuff totally and installed
using a backup of my original 3.5 partition to boot from and enable the
CD-ROM.
Always comes in handy that... At the mo, using the early startup screen, I
can boot into fully working installs of 3.1 3.5 and 3.9, each on different
partitions. Saved my ass a few times, I can tell ya!
