Subject:More SCSI woes

Hello again,

Last week I posted for details of how to convert a SCSI centronics (as found on
the squirrel) to an internal 50 pin SCSI I/F. As it happens, I had a cable that
does just that in my carrier bag of bits, so I connect the centronics I/F to one
of the ports in the back of the tower, and on the inside I get a standard 50 pin
(male) connector.

SO off I went and got a standard 50 pin internal SCSI cable, plugged one end
into my new I/F (with the squirrel on the otherside), and the other end onto my
CDRom, powered up, and nothing. No CD drive. Tried it again the old way and
all's well.

What's going on? The total cable length from squirrel to CD (inc connector) is
about 12 inches, which I wouldn't have thought would cause a problem (the daisy
chain cable on the new lead is about 18 inches).

No other devices are attached to the chain.

And incidentally, does anyone know how to set the jumpers on the CD to set the
id? (power CD 4x - sony mechanism). I can get rid of the ID selector then that I
transplanted with the CD.

All the best

Steve.
