I always find a blitzkrieg-style assault works wonders in Earth 2140 :)
Leave a skeleton defence of your base, then mass up as many tanks as you can
build in a staging area opposite (but quite far away from) the objective.
Then, once everything is in place, select everything, and move in for the
kill. You don't even have to target; just let the bods do it themselves! Its
great! Steam in there!!
