Maybe your modem needs more amps. With the Pace Microlin33.6 , I'm using
one of those multi mains adaptors from Argos. I first tried lower rated one,
though the power LED lit up there was no respose from the modem. So I tried the
higher rated one and it workks ok. thats at 1200milliamps and 7.5 volts.
have you looked at where you plug the power lead into the modem, might say
whats it's reqirements are. alternativly might be printed underneath on a
silver sticker.
