Perhaps with the humugous (sp?) Hyperion thread on ANN, everyone has
had their fill of discussing AmiThlon?
Now that Amiga Inc have made an official statement about their plans
for it and x86, and it's cleared of the confusion. And to pick more
holes, I think AInc should have come out with those statements sooner,
as there was inevitably going to be confusion. Anyway, thats not the
issue. Hyperion it seems have nothing more to worry about with
AmiThlon being an OS3.x/68k emulator only.
Personally I'm not too keen on AmiThlon. I have a 1260 which meets my
needs, and I use WinUAE when I don't have access to the Amiga. But
then I don't really need anything faster (UAE running at almost the
same speed as my Amiga but not as responsive). I also think it would
be too much hassle to have to reboot to run AmiThlon, as I generally
find myself switching between UAE and Windows apps, or switching my
monitor between my Amiga and PC. Although I suppose you could sit
there with two PCs and run AmiThlon on one full time. But that would
involve me buying yet another computer and it was bad enough moving
flat recently with the two :/
I can see it might attract some people to try it out, and this is part
of what AInc are aiming for, to generate interest. But I doubt people
who use Windows apps all the time will be able to fully convert to
AmiThlon, as there simply isn't the quantity and ceertain specific
applications for OS3.x/68k. And like I said above, I think they'd also
find rebooting every now and again would be too much a hassle.
