Yes, definitely. People do.

You need a program with HPGL output. ProDraw is the best bet, but you
could probably use Draw Studio and convert the output with Metaview
(using an ARexx script to make it automatic).

I've used a Roland vinyl cutter with ProDraw.

At one time there was a program called Sign Engine, which took the
ProDraw output and did some further processing. AFAIK it isn't really
necessary.

The ProDraw output has one snag: long straight lines are rendered as lots of
short straight lines, so the cutter is slowed down. If one was doing a
lot of cutting, it might pay to write a custom ARexx HPGL export script
to avoid this. I have a routine to convert paths to straight line
segments which is the crucial part needed.

I wish somebody could persuade Andy Dean to do some more work on Draw
Studio. It needs an ARexx command to return a list of the points in a
path (and their control handles), to make export scripts possible.
