Hello,
Today i will mostly be telling you what i have bought recently, are we
sitting comfortably?then i'll begin...
On DVD:
'The Little Vampire',9/10,for kids of all ages, brilliant film, comes in one
of those horrible cardboard cases with flip open spine.I bought it for my
daughter but really got it because i wanted it;-)
'The Matrix'.Also packaged in one of those annoying cardboard things. This
one is Zig's.We watched it when it came out on video but haven't watched
this DVD yet.I can't give it a score until i've watched the DVD.
'Blade'9/10.I liked the original comics when i was younger(wouldn't mind
some of the old Afro and wooden knives Blade comics,i think i still have
one somewhere)so i was overjoyed when i first read they were making a film
version.Haven't got round to watching the DVD version yet as i'm watching
my recent VHS films first.
On to the classy stuff(both still to watch)'Witchboard 3:The
Possesion'(£3.99)cheap and tasty, probably no sfx till near the end but i'm
looking forward to watching this.
'Cannibal Ferox'(Vipco),probubly crap but i've wanted to see for myself for
years.Apparently the Region 1 version is excellent, especially the
extras, pity mines the Region 2 which is supposed to be crap.A small picture
gallery and a couple of trailers is all i get.It only runs 83 mins so i'm
guessing it's heavily cut..maybe not...
On to the Vhs vids:'Death Flash'.(£1.00).I knew exactly what i was getting
when i bought it.A low budget, never heard of anyone associated with it
thriller/action film, big guns and lots of car crashes.Great:-)
Went to Salisbury, bought a t-shirt of the film'Rockula'secondhand then went
a couple of shops down and found the video secondhand. It is bloody
awfull.'Starring'Bo Diddly(what was he thinking?at one point he appears on
stage wearing a yellow leotard and cloak with bat shaped deely boppers on
his head!!!,Thomas Dolby playing something or other and 'Hey Mickey!'Toni
Basil as the vampires mother.Susan Tyrrell turns up in another of her over
the top roles. The songs are all that type that appear nowhere but in these
type of films, all bass and keyboards with visible guitars but no guitar
sound.7/10,yes seven out of ten.what can i say,i like this rubbish.
Rented'Sole Survivor'starring Billy Zane.Had to take it back to the video
shop and exchange it for another copy as the audio was messed up in the
first one.I think it's probably a cut down mini-series 'cos it's about 3
hours long but well worth the running time. It's taken from a Dean Koontz
novel(he was co producer)and really does the book justice. The pace never
let up as the hero tries to find out why the plane with his wife and
daughter crashed. The guvornment clean-up agent was played perfectly, showing
the humour that Koontz portrays in some of the characters in his books.Even
though he (tha agent)is a nasty, slimy little man his dry humour succeeds
where Freddy Krueger failed in Nightmare 2,especially his final comment.A
captivating film from beginning to end.8/10.
This a long mail.My fingers won't stop typing.I'll tell you about the new
book i bought in another mail, don't want anyone falling asleep now do we?
cheers,
--nobby,gonna write some more when my fingers stop bleeding;-)
