Subject:Today's debate about the Amiga announcement

Hi everyone,

Calm down please! (That includes you, Gary ;-) )

A few points -

Amithlon is designed to provide the fastest possible emulation for
retargetable Amiga software on the x86 platform. Typos notwithstanding, the
modified JIT engine will provide much faster speeds than an Amiga running
any '060 processor. It isn't a "complete" Amiga emulation - if you want
that there's always the straight UAE, for example, which won't be as fast
but is still faster than any Classic Amiga ever built if you have a fast
enough x86 box.

I don't expect Amithlon to compete with the AmigaOne. It will be less
compatible than the AmigaOne, and it won't run PPC software. It will be a
great convenience to people who, for whatever reason, don't want to buy an
AmigaOne. It may well inspire some people to buy an AmigaOne who otherwise
wouldn't have. It will even mean we can run a lot of our Amiga software on
laptops, which is nice.

No doubts a more timely press release would have meant less confusion and
would have assuaged Hyperion's worries, but I guess we can put that down to
Bill's enthusiasm - and be glad the boss of Amiga IS enthusiastic, we've
suffered a few in the past who weren't!

Cheers,
