Chances are your hard drive takes longer to spin up than the ROMs
allow for waiting from a cold boot. If you wait until you get the
insert disk screen and then warm reset it the computer should boot
from hard disk.
The OS3.1 ROMs wait a bit longer than the OS3.0 ROMs.
Alternatively there's a hardware hack on Aminet which makes the
computer wait a bit longer on cold reboots (keeps the computer in a
reset state) saving you from having to manually reboot. Works a treat,
as I used to use it.
