OK, if my_function really is a function, you need to call it with
a=my_function{}.
Otherwise, I'm stumped. If it had been a compile time error then it should be easy
enough, but I've just tried a couple of things to re-produce the error here, but
I couldn't.
Do you get the same problem using:
If
a=my_function{}
else
etc.
