There's never really any need to do a Full Format on a HD, unless of course
you suspect it of having bad sectors - in which case I would start to suspect
the drive might be on it's way out :) (Or you did something really stupid
while it was writing but then you'd be using a file system that's not prone
to these kinds of problems...ie. it's semi-user proof ;)
Quick formatting sets the HD up sufficiently to enable it to be used, writes
all the information needed by the filesystem to enable reading/writing and
does it a hell of a lot quicker regardless of the previous formatting,
whether it was new or even if it had bad blocks.
The original OS3.1 Format command works OK if you specify the QUICK option
for HDs over 4GB.
