AACD Newsflash!

Amiga Active CDs have some new features

At last, the "Hang on Save" bug in AACDprefs is gone

Some people found that AACDprefs would hang when saving their settings. It turns out that this was caused by them running it from hard drive with no current settings. This situation shouldn't occur, which is why it took a while to find the cause. When you run Welcome the default settings are copied to your system if you don't have your own settings.

Welcome also ensures that other files needed by the CD are kept up to date. You must run Welcome the first time you use each new CD to be sure that things will work as intended. We have done all we can to avoid your having to run it every time you want to use the CD, but once a month shouldn't be too much trouble for anyone.

Older CD index files are now archived

The index files for previous Amiga Active CDs were taking up more space each month. We have now compressed all index files more than a year old. this reduces them to a tenth of their original size, but means they cannot be read from the CD.

SearchCDs is capable of reading CD index files from anywhere, in fact reading them from your hard drive results in much faster searching. If you select this option in the Search section of AACDprefs, the files will be unpacked and stored on your hard drive, ready for immediate, and faster, searching. If you do not want to do this, you can still search the indices of older CDs by running SearchCDs from a previous CD.

Problems with last month's Linux files

Some people are still experiencing problems reading the multisession CDs used to hold both Amiga and Linux information. This is generally due to the use of the Commodore CD filesystem, which is rubbish.

There is no way to avoid using a multi-session disc if we want to combine Amiga and Linux files. Each machine has extensions to the standard Rockridge CD filesystem specification, so the Amiga part of the CD has to be created on an Amiga and the Linux part on a Linux system.
