![]() This disc contains a number of sample files taken from CD sets available from NASA. This will allow you to evaluate the type of images found on different discs as well as evaluating the Musbury Consultants Image Exploration Suite. The pages here give some indication of the space science CDs available from NASA. These were taken off NASA's own web site at http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/cd-rom/cd-rom.html . This site contains an on line ordering system which is not available if you are running this from a local disc, however, the order fields have been left so you can see what options you have when ordering the discs. Their are however active links from these pages to NASA and other places that can be reached if you are on line. Before placing an order make sure to read the FEQs (frequently asked questions) page. None of the NASA information mentions suitability for Acorn computers and some of the CDs have been produced with XAR's (eXtended Attribute Records), this means that they can't be read under Acorn's CDFS. They can be read by an Acorn computer with a PC operating system, if you have a PC card or emulator. Files can be temporally coped to the hard disc and accessed under RISC OS. Alternately the CDFS from WSS will allow these discs to be read by RISC OS desktop applications. There is an icon on the data set's description page to show if it can be read under the Acorn system or the WSS system. If there is no icon then that set has not been tested. ![]() ![]() ![]() All sets of discs have information documents describing the mission, experiments and file format, these are subtly different for each mission. However most of the images are available using Musbury Consultant's suite of Image Investigation applications. Then they can be saved in the standard Acorn sprite format. CDs containing GIF and JPEG image files can be viewed using Acorn's ChangeFSI application. |
