Installing QuickTime 3

The QuickTime 3 Installer includes everything you need to experience digital video media, and much more on your computer. Remember, before you can use QuickTime, you need to download the QuickTime 3 software. Get it Now!.


Windows Installation

  1. QuickTime takes advantage of DirectDraw for optimal video performance, and DirectSound for audio synchronization. It is important for you to have the latest drivers for your video and sound cards. You can also search for your specific driver. You may also need the current version of DirectX.
  2. Download QuickTime 3.
  3. After you have downloaded QuickTime 3, double-click on the 'QuickTime30.exe' image to start the installation process.
  4. Follow the installation wizard's instructions (you must OK the License agreement) to complete the installation process.
  5. Enjoy QuickTime.


Macintosh Installation

  1. Download the QuickTime 3 software from the Apple web-site. Note: you may download either the single file option (MacBinary, which is smaller, or BinHex which is more compatible) or if you are using a slower connection (14.4 modems) you can select the segmented file option which uses five smaller files to download QuickTime 3. (the segmented installation process is similar to the steps below but with five files)
  2. After the file is finished downloading, double-click on the 'QuickTime 3.smi' file. This will create an icon on your desktop called 'QuickTime Installer'
  3. Double-click on the 'QuickTime Installer' image to open it.
  4. Read the 'QuickTime READ ME', then double-click on the 'Installer' file that is visible. This starts the installation process.
  5. Read the first window of the installation process and select continue. You will then be presented a license agreement that you should review, accept the license agreement by clicking on the 'Agree' button. You then select the volume on which you want to install QuickTime 3, and click on the 'Install' button.
  6. After the installation is finished, you will be prompted to restart your computer. You must do this to begin using QuickTime 3.
  7. Enjoy QuickTime.
