MoDOOM - The DOOM II Modem Front End ==================================== Copyright 1994 by The Cookie Monster Since this program took very little time to write, it is freeware. If you were charged money for this then you've been ripped off. You can distribute MoDOOM as long as you include all it's files unchanged - you may delete the CFG file if like though. I wrote this to save me a bit of hassle when starting up modem games, if you have any problems, questions or suggestions then feel free to email me at misc199@csc.canterbury.ac.nz MoDOOM - Help (This help is available at run-time) * Misc * This interface is designed for a mouse but may be used with a keyboard by using ALT, TAB, Space and the arrow keys. For most of the gaming options to work (skill level, deathmatch etc), your opponent must have the same options selected. MoDOOM will work with both serial links and modem connections, if you are using a modem you must have run Setup and selected the type of modem you are using, this creates the file MODEM.CFG which SerSetup uses to gain information about your modem - If you have run modem games before then this has obviously already been done. * Using MoDOOM * Saved Games: Pretty basic, click on the saved game you want to load or none (default) if you don't want to run any. Skill Level: Click on the skill level you wish to play in. Connecting: Click on `connected' if your modems are already linked or if you are playing across a serial link, `answer' will make your modem wait for the other person to dial you, `Dial' dials the number in the box below it. To save looking up numbers you may wish to use the Directory, to add an entry fill out the name and phone number and press the `Add' button. To delete an entry, select the entry in the list box and press the `delete' button. Selecting an entry and pressing `OK' will put that persons phone number into the `Dial' box. Loading WADs: The list on the left contains the WADs (extra DOOM levels) that MoDOOM has detected, the list on the right contains the WADs that will be run when you play. To select a WAD to run, double click on it (in the left list box) and it will be added to the right list box, to remove one from the list of WADs to be run, double click on it. Options: This is a list of game options available to you, checked boxes (ie ones with an X in them are turned ON the others are Off). To toggle an option, click on it. DeathMatch - You try to kill each other, if this is not On it will run a co-op game. DeathMatch 2.0 - new rules in DeathMatch - objects respawn after 30 seconds No Monsters - removes monsters from levels Respawn - monsters respawn after about 8 seconds Fast Monsters - makes monsters about 3 times faster Development Mode - used by id for techy purposes, most useful thing about this is the little fps gauge at the bottom left of the screen. Player Speed: This is the percentage of your normal speed that you wish to play at, for instance by entering 200, you will go as fast as if you were running without having to hold down run! (holding down run would make you go twice as fast again). The other player(s) will be told of your speed. Start Level: Enter the DOOM II level you want to start in here. Comm Ports: Click on the Comm port (1-4) which your modem is located at if you are playing across the modem or the serial port that is linked to the other computer if you are using a serial link. Run DOOM II: (Actually runs SerSetup which runs DOOM II) Saves your settings and runs DOOM II with your options. If you have selected `dial' but left the phone number box empty, it will beep and do nothing. Quit: Saves your settings and exits Extra Commands Line Options: Not all DOOM options are supported by MoDOOM, if there is some rare command that you wish to use this is the place to type it. eg if you wanted to record the game you are about to play as a movie or demo then you would put `-record' in this box. Trouble Shooting: There *may* be a bug with the mouse cursor on some machines, this is Microsofts fault, not mine (their mouse routines). If you have this problem and really want to use this program (haha) then you could try changing mouse drivers.
