Auto-detection is used to choose your sound card configuration. [3] Custom installation þ To install Surface Tension DEMO follow the following steps : 1. Insert disk into CD drive. 2. (y ? r u crazy ???) ù You may also use the mouse to choose fields or make selections þ After each screen, confirm selections with button (or use use to revert or exit). þ The following will explain each screen in the installation. [2.1] Screen mode þ In this screen you choose the graphic mode in which Surface Tension will run. Availiable options are : 640 x 480 True Color 32k/64k colors (default) Choosing this option you get near to real life color. Playing in this mode is a bit slower and is recomended only on fast computers. However it is still playable on minimal configurations. 640 x 480 HiRes 256 colors If you choose this option you will play in less colors but the game will be more fluent (higher frame rate). It is recommended to choose this option on slow computers with less memory. [2.2] Method Minimal - 14Mb With this method the game will take little disk space but playing the game can be discomforting when loading a new world or a saved game since it will take a lot of time. Partial - 40Mb Choosing this option will not be so annoying when loading but it will hurt your disk space more. If you have as much as 8 more megabytes availiable, you are advised to use the ultimate full installation. Full - 48Mb This method of installation will take more time and disk space but once you install the game, loading new worlds and saved games will take less time (very convinient). [2.3] Path The screen is divided into "available drives" list box, and "where to install" text box. Availiable drives þ The list box will display all available logical drives with type (Hard, Network) and disk space availiable on each drive. þ Select the wanted drive in the available drives list box by choosing the listbox and using the , buttons. Then press to move to "Where to install" text box. þ You can use the scroll bar to see more drives if they don't fit the list box. Where to install þ In this text box you type the full path of the installation þ The drive is derived from the selection in the "available drives" listbox, but it can still be changed by typing a new path. þ If you choose a path that does not exist you will be asked "if you want to create it?" when you continue the installation. þ If there is not enough disk space on the drive you chose, you will be informed of this. þ If a previous installation exists in the path you chose you will be asked if you want to override previous installation. þ If and if and if and if ... Just Do It ! Nike :-) [2.4] Progress window þ In the progress window you will see the files created and a precentage bar that indicates progress in precentage. If you press any key or click the cancel button you abort the installation. þ After this stage (if it is successfull) the sound installation program will start. [4] Sound installation þ The sound setup program can be invoked by typing SETUP at the insallation directory. It will automatically be invoked after game installation is complete. þ The setup program lets you choose your sound card and configures the game to use this sound card. [4.1] Supported sound cards þ Basically the game supports sound blaster and compatibles but has special support for the following cards: ù PAS 16 ù PAS + ù Sound blaster ù Sound blaster 16 ù Sound blaster pro ù WSS/Audiotrix pro [4.2] Sound card selection þ It is recommended that you autodetect your sound card by pressing the autodetect button. Doing this will cause the computer to highlight your sound card in the sound card listbox. The autodetection will also fill the PORT NUMBER, INTERRUPT NUMBER and DMA CHANNEL fields for you (correctly we hope ...). þ If you have any changes you want to make to the autodetected configuration, you can enter the fields using the mouse or the keyboard, and make these modifications yourself. [4.3] Sound testing þ After you are satisfied with the sound card parameters you will probably want to test it. þ Just press the TEST button with the mouse or pick it and press . þ You will hear the music played from your CD. Do not forget to place the CD in the CD drive otherwise you'll get an error message . þ If you do not hear the music, check to see if the speakers are attached, or if the volume is low. If you still do not hear anything, check the mixer of your sound blaser, and see if sound effects have any volume. [5] Trouble Shooting þ The installation cannot handle properly network CD Drives ! Press to skip the error message, after inserting a CD to the network CD drive.
